Forensic Nurse Examiner Services – Oceanside Region and Port Alberni Region
Who can access care?
– Survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence
– All ages and all genders
– Services available up to 7 days post-incident
Accessing Care (No RCMP report required):
Option 1:
Oceanside Urgent Care Centre (Parksville)
-Available 7am to 5pm for forensic nursing care after 5 pm go to West Coast General Hospital Emergency Department or Nanaimo Regional General Hospital
Option 2 and 3:
Emergency Department – Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (Nanaimo) or West Coast General Hospital (Port Alberni)
– Available 24/7
– Ask to see a Forensic Nurse Examiner
Three Care Pathways Available for Patients to Choose:
1. Medical Care Only
– Medical treatment (medications and lab work as needed) and documentation
– No forensic samples collected
– No report to law enforcement
2. Medical + Forensic Sample Collection (No Report)
– Medical treatment
– Forensic documentation and sample collection
– Samples stored for up to one year
– No report to law enforcement
3. Full Medical + Forensic Care with Reporting
– Medical treatment
– Forensic documentation and sample collection
– Samples handed over to law enforcement and report made
