Mid-Island Sexual Assault Services is a program provided by Sources Community Resource Society (SOURCES). SOURCES is an accredited agency with the Council of Accreditation (COA) and has experience providing a variety of social and community-based services across the province of BC. Locally on Vancouver Island, SOURCES provides a variety of family, youth, clinical, victim services, and violence prevention services to the communities of Oceanside, as well as Sexual Assault Services to Nanaimo and Oceanside. SOURCES has been providing service for over 40 years and we are dedicated to ensuring that people supported through our programs receive professional, trauma-informed, and culturally safe services.
By taking a survivor-centred approach that prioritizes the privacy, rights, needs, and wishes of the survivor, our qualified staff are able to provide the services and information you need to heal from a sexual trauma, while also ensuring that you are treated with the dignity and respect you deserve. We will never discriminate against you based on your gender, age, race/ethnicity, ability, sexual orientation, HIV status, or any other characteristic.
Our goal is to provide you and your family members with the resources and education you need to recover. We know that you are not to blame for the trauma you have incurred, and that every person’s support needs are different. That is why we work hard to create a safe and supportive space where you feel believed and where we can meet you wherever you are at in your healing journey.
The Mid-Island Sexual Assault Services is also committed to prevention, education, and advocacy in the area of sexual violence. We believe that the more advocacy, education, and awareness that exists in communities, around sexual violence, the better we will be able to support those impacted, work towards reducing risk to people in our communities, and prevent further escalation of this current and concerning trend.
MISAS can provide prevention education and community awareness activities in schools, workplaces and other areas in the community. If you are interested in having MISAS participate in an event, you can contact the program through email at misas@sourcesbc.ca or by phone at 250-228-2273.
